A Grip Stage 2 study commissioned by Network Rail to investigate the options and potential for the regeneration of Luton’s town centre station in the context of Luton Borough Council’s vision for the wider area.
Strzala Architects were lead consultant and Architects, with Engineering support being provided by Hyder Consulting.
Options currently being investigated include the refurbishment of the station buildings with the reinstatement of original building forms and removal of unsympathetic additions.
Further options include new build locations to the East and West of the current location.Various limitations within the site include Overhead Line Equipment siting, signal locations and minimal platform widths. There exists a public right of way across the site linking High Town and Low Town, which is to be retained and a new public square and bus station will be located to the front of the station.
Consultations have taken place with Network Rail, First Capital Connect and Luton Borough Council.
