As part of the Access for All programme of works Strzala Architects undertook the development of modular footbridge designs for Network Rail, which build upon the modular stations building programme. Grip Stage 5 attained.
The design incorporates a standardisation of components and detailing, which remains flexible enough to suit most site-specific situations. The bridge span, a standard 12m length is designed to fit all locations and be lifted into place onto the bird table structures. This bridge span can be removed and replaced at any station location without the need for modifications. This reduces the possession requirements for the sites.
Glazing to the bridge span incorporates hinged panels, which can be cleaned or replaced from the inside, again negating the need for track possessions.
